Envirco Introduces Enviramedic^® Surgery Enclosures for Protection Against Microbiological Contaminants

Sanford, N.C., December 15, 2003 – Envirco Corporation, a division of Fedders Engineered Products, has developed, under the Envirco brand, Enviramedic^® Surgery Enclosures to limit the risk of infection during critical surgery procedures. The Enviramedic H.O.R. (Horizontal Surgery Enclosure), H.C.F. (Horizontal Surgery Room) and V.O.R. (Vertical Surgery Isolator) enclosures are ISO Class 5 Laminar Flow Surgery Systems that remove 99.99% of all particles, including microbiological contaminants of 0.3 micron and larger, providing ultra-clean air to flow uniformly through the critical surgery zone.

“All three Enviramedic systems can be used for new hospital construction, however, the Enviramedic H.O.R. and H.C.F. are ideal for retrofit projects, because of their modular design and minimal site preparation requirements,” says Paul Christiansen, Envirco's Director of Sales.

According to a recent article in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA, 2003; 290:1868-1874), potentially deadly infections of the bloodstream, or sepsis, is a common post-surgical complication. People who get such infections have a 22% higher risk of dying. The survivors had to stay an extra 11 days with a hospital bill that was $58,000 higher than that of people who didn't get an infection.
